22 June 2014:
ITS-Arab has launched its ITS-Index project during the 10th ITS European Congress in Helsinki. The launch received a wide interest from the international ITS community, which involves ITS-Arab’s participation in a policy forum hosted by the European Commission.
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (June 22, 2014) - Osama Filali Naji, Chairman of the Transport Policy Working Group (TPWG), ITS-Arab, presented the ITS-Index project to ITS and Transport Policy experts during the 10th ITS European Congress held 16-19 June 2014 in Helsinki, Finland. The European ITS and Transport Policy experts together with the European Commission are preparing to launch a similar project and have invited ITS-Arab, and others, to participate in continued discussion.
The primary objectives of the TPWG are to raise awareness of the importance of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) through demonstrating the positive socio-economic impact of ITS implementation; and to participate in a worldwide ITS implementation standards development.
The objective of the ITS-Index project is to develop a first-of-its-kind comparative index used to evaluate and compare ITS competencies across regions with the aim of accelerating standardisation and encouraging ITS deployment that can improve transport management efficiency, safety and security.
ITS applications are concerned with providing systems that improve the efficient use of transport networks by providing informed and improved mobility of people and goods.
“We are pleased with the high level of interests in the ITS-Index project, which means that we are on the right track. It also appears that ITS-Arab is leading the world in the ITS-Index field, which means that ITS-Arab is the first body to establish a standardised definition of ITS deployment index” commented Osama Filali Naji, Chairman of the TPWG, ITS-Arab.
“The TPWG is one of ITS-Arab’s recent working groups to be established, where TPWG is already playing an active role in positioning the Arab region as an international leader and contributor to ITS standardisation. ITSArab, headquartered in Riyadh, has positively influenced or contributed to most ITS projects in the region” said Shahad Serafi, Marketing Director, ITS-Arab.
